Lebanon, Kuwait Forge Deeper Security Collaboration
The announcement followed a high-level meeting in Beirut between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Sheikh Fahd Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, who is currently on an official visit.
During the talks, Sheikh Fahd emphasized that both countries had "discussed key security concerns," and underscored that "stability and security are priorities for all nations."
He also proposed revitalizing the Lebanese-Kuwaiti Higher Joint Committee, noting, "Kuwait and Lebanon need each other. We are two of the closest nations in the region."
The Kuwaiti official pledged his country's continued solidarity with Lebanon through its ongoing difficulties.
President Aoun, in response, expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s unwavering support, reiterated Lebanon’s dedication to reinforcing bilateral relations, and stressed the urgent need for coordinated security efforts—particularly in combating drug trafficking and transnational crimes.
He also voiced optimism about a rise in Kuwaiti visitors during Lebanon’s peak summer tourism period.
Separately on Monday, Lebanon's central bank announced it had signed a cooperation agreement with the U.S.-based firm K2 Integrity. The partnership aims "to combat the expansion of the cash economy and address all forms of illicit and fraudulent activities" taking place within Lebanon.
