Israel Orders IDF to Ready for Conflict Amid Iranian Protests

(MENAFN) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been instructed to prepare for the possibility of simultaneous confrontations with Iran, Lebanon, and the West Bank, according to a TV channel.

One potential scenario involves an “explosive operation” directed at Tehran, which is currently experiencing widespread Israeli-backed demonstrations over rising living costs.

The directive is part of a four-year strategic plan overseen by IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, the broadcaster reported on Wednesday. Beyond conventional war readiness, the plan also envisions developing capabilities to strike satellites and terrestrial targets from space.

Officials in West Jerusalem anticipate that Iran may launch an attack against Israel to “prevent the dissolution” of its government under mounting protest pressure, the channel noted.

While Israel has refrained from issuing official statements on the unrest in Iran, citing concerns about provoking a military response, the channel claimed that the Mossad intelligence agency has openly supported the protests online and asserted that its operatives are embedded within the demonstrations.

The protests, which erupted in late December, were triggered by hyperinflation and a prolonged economic crisis in the heavily sanctioned Islamic Republic.

This wave of unrest, described as the most severe in recent years, quickly spread across numerous cities and resulted in deadly clashes with Iranian authorities. Some demonstrators have even called for the restoration of the monarchy, which was overthrown during the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
