Deadly Israeli Strikes Hit Beirut Suburbs, S, Lebanon, Killing Eight

(MENAFN) At least eight people lost their lives and 13 others were wounded on Sunday following a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs and areas in southern Lebanon, according to reports.

Among the victims were two people killed in an attack on the southern outskirts of the Lebanese capital, where 11 others were also reported injured.

Earlier reports indicated that two residential apartments located in separate buildings in the Hawta al-Ghadir district were struck, resulting in several casualties and injuries.

Witnesses said Israeli warplanes carried out the bombardment in the Dahiyeh area without any prior warning. Thick smoke was later seen rising above the targeted locations.

In a statement posted on social media, Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee said the strike targeted what he described as a Hezbollah infrastructure site in the area.

According to reports, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said the operation was launched in response to rocket fire that Hezbollah allegedly directed toward northern Israel earlier on Sunday.

Reports also indicated that Israeli officials notified the United States before military aircraft carried out the attack.
